Stop relying on how &#8216;obvious&#8217; our value is; stop being lazy about biculturalism; value ourselves, have courage, be visible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Monday<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/open-your-mind-vinh-giang-open17\/\">Open your mind <\/a>&#8211; magic show with some inspirational takeaways \ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/open-your-arms-and-mind-mojgan-sadhigi-open17\/\">Open your arms (and mind)<\/a> &#8211; best practice for creating programmes with culturally and linguistically diverse communities<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/te-haerenga-o-koha-kathryn-tyree-chris-cormack-open17\/\">Te haerenga o Koha <\/a>(te reo) &#8211; history\/journey of the Koha library platform<\/li>\n<li>(Plus my presentation on <a href=\"https:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/10182\/10143\">open access to conference proceedings<\/a>, and Rebecca Dames&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/lianza.recollect.co.nz\/nodes\/view\/4875\">presentation on our virtual reference service AskLive<\/a> .)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Tuesday<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/huakina-te-whare-ki-te-ao-ariana-tikao-catherine-amey-anahera-morehu-open17\/\">Huakina te whare ki te ao <\/a>&#8211; background and examples of Ng\u0101 Upoko Tukutuku (M\u0101ori subject headings)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/whats-going-on-with-e-book-usage-catherine-leonard-open17\/\">What&#8217;s going on with ebook usage?<\/a> &#8211; public library context, did lots of work extracting usage data and combining with patron data, plus surveying satisfaction<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/games-for-learning-dan-millward-open17\/\">Games for learning <\/a>&#8211; focusing on the learning around <em>making <\/em>games rather than <em>playing<\/em> them, and particularly using the presenter&#8217;s Gamefroot platform<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/opening-up-licensing-agreements-annette-keogh-open17\/\">Opening up licensing agreements <\/a>&#8211; the kinds of terms we should be clarifying with database vendors, and how we convey this to users (particularly in Alma &#8211; <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">we could be doing this a bit on the journal level now, though not on the article level<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/the-future-of-the-commons-paul-stacey-open17\/\">The Future of the Commons<\/a> &#8211; looking at Creative Commons (and the commons in general) from the point of view of the social systems supporting the commons, and in relation to the state and the market.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/journey-mapping-approach-maxine-ramsay-open17\/\">Enhancing library services with a <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">journey mapping approach<\/span><\/a> &#8211; a user experience methodology with a focus on the user&#8217;s emotions. Looking at what the user does and how they feel at each stage of carrying out a particular task\/heading towards a particular goal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wednesday<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/the-development-of-a-digital-atlas-of-ngai-tahu-history-takerei-norton-open17\/\">The development of a digital atlas of Ng\u0101i Tahu history<\/a> &#8211; background and development of the project mapping placenames and attached history for the whole of the South Island &#8211; a massive (and massively important) project. <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">Call for institutions with relevant content to share it with the project.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/engaging-the-student-community-through-work-placements-jessica-henry-open17\/\">Engaging the student community through work placements in the AUT university library makerspace<\/a> &#8211; 2 projects done with student work experience placement from non-LIS students &#8211; talked about getting creative with what non-LIS skills have to offer the library<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/the-summer-boutique-library-daille-white-open17\/\">The summer boutique library \u2013 closing the library but keeping the doors open<\/a> &#8211; process around creating a temporary library while closed for refurbishment over the summer trimester.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/finding-our-happy-place-at-work-cath-sheard-open17\/\">Finding our happy place at work <\/a>&#8211; approaches taken by a new manager to improve staff morale. A favourite: cut back on number of events &#8211; and as a result number of events went up as the pressure was off and staff enjoyed doing them again.<\/li>\n<li style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/learnt-it-on-the-grapevine-pat-mock-jenny-kirkwood-open17\/\">Learnt it on the grapevine <\/a>&#8211; a &#8220;Chinese Whispers&#8221; approach to staff training &#8211; solved timetabling issues but more importantly increased staff engagement and retention of information.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/deborahfitchett.com\/blog\/2017\/09\/open-data-perceptions-of-barriers-to-research-data-sharing-jo-simons-open17\/\">Open data? Perceptions of barriers to research data-sharing <\/a>&#8211; Librarians don&#8217;t always know what researchers&#8217; real reasons for not sharing data are.
